Compuscan is the partner of choice for Central Banks, Banking Associations and Entrepreneurial groups that wish to develop Credit Bureau initiatives in emerging markets.

Using our advanced technology we have developed a scalable, portable and resilient credit bureau platform that we are now able to use as a standard platform to ensure a rapid start-up of the business in any new market. In addition, we offer a set of complementary value added products and an exceptional consultancy service to our partners, sharing the management know-how and diverse operational experience we have gained across the diverse lending markets of Africa.

Our Value Proposition:

The implementation of a successful Credit Bureau requires quick and systematic porting of borrower data into a Credit Bureau Database. In order to facilitate this, we have prepared software tools to facilitate data mapping and porting. This includes:

  • Input File Preparation Tools
  • Data Entry Tools
  • Validation Tools

Data is gathered from diverse suppliers and is stratified into generic formats. These formats have been developed to enable data to be uploaded to existing tables on a credit bureau database for a specific new country. Within weeks of collecting data we are able to deliver advanced credit reporting solutions in the form of credit reports, customer credit activity monitoring solutions, fraud prevention systems and debtor tracing services. After data has been enriched through time or other value added data sets, we are also able to introduce value added credit risk solutions such as credit scoring technologies in even the least sophisticated markets. Our customers’ market needs and requirements are the most important aspect of our solution implementation process. When we are establishing and rolling out our systems into a new market, we take cognisance of our customers’ essential requirements, such as applicable legislation, regulations, specific market needs, economic requirements, human resources, technical infrastructure and new developments in the industry that may be applicable to your particular market. It is our policy to ensure that all the role players are actively engaged in the establishment of a new credit bureau, from the initiation stages to roll out, and ultimately the continued operation of a bureau.

Our credit bureau infrastructure solution is able to collect, load, validate, store and disseminate both positive and negative data as well as supplementary data (such as court judgments). Our Credit Bureau system is world-class, robust and highly customisable. Compuscan was awarded the coveted “Sun and Oracle Partner of the Year” award for our excellence in innovation with Technology. The development, hosting and management of the IT needed for the Credit Bureau is all done in-house. This provides control over all the processes involved, while also enabling the rapid evolvement of system functionality as new requirements come to light. Products therefore remain up to date, with leading-edge capabilities. Systems make use of Sun, Oracle and SQL. Applications are developed in C++, C Sharp and Java. The system is an online database delivering credit information in seconds.

Typical information stored in the credit bureau includes:

  • Identifying Information
  • Credit Histories
  • Information on Fraudulent Behaviour
  • Judgement Information
  • Previous Enquiries
  • Credit Scores
