In the spirit of Christmas and the Soccer World Cup 2010, Compuscan donated soccer balls to the disadvantaged children of The Village Kids Nursery School in Garden Village, Somerset West as part of their annual school ready graduation ceremony.
Here in this economically depressed suburb, where basics like food are scarce commodities, there is no money to buy toys or sports equipment and like many children in the South Africa who are extremely excited about the Soccer World Cup, most of them have seldom or never touched a real soccer ball.
When the soccer balls arrived, the children's endless smiles were testimony to the impact of the gifts. According to Jo Bouwhuis co-founder of the Village Kids Nursery school, "The children's enthusiasm could scarcely be contained! Growing up in families that struggle, few have dreamed that one day they might have a real soccer ball to take onto the field."
But today they do, and as the children held the balls in disbelief and awe, they said "thank you!," "thank you!" again and again.
Gill Van Rensburg, the other founder of the nursery school also commented: "Playing soccer will build them into a team, keep them out of trouble, makes them forget how hard their life can be and, most of all, give them hope for a better tomorrow."
Compuscan helped to establish and currently funds the salaries of the teachers and food for "The Village Kids Nursery School", in Garden Village, Somerset West.
