Compuscan Hosts Contact Sessions in Botswana: Surviving the New Regulation! Print

July 2009

Botswana FlagBotswana will soon introduce new credit regulations for micro lenders which will bring an end to unscrupulous business practices by instilling much stricter affordability & business practices; much like the NCA has done for South Africa.

Compuscan traveled to Botswana from 1 - 3 June 2009 to host 3 contact sessions together with the Non Bank Financial Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA), the Micro Lending Association Botswana (MLAB) & RealPay to discuss ways to survive the new the up-and-coming legislation in Botswana.

We visited Gaborone, Palapye & Francistown where topics such as the role of the NBFIRA , the benefits of joining MLAB, responsible lending and collection solutions where discussed.

We had overall 180 microlenders who attended the respective venues.

The general feedback received was very positive, from the lenders after the roadshow as they now realise that the NBFIRA is there to regulate them fairly, they were given until the 17th of July to submit either individual proposals or through the MLAB.

In how it affects us, we have had many calls from the Botswana lenders to put into place the right solutions for their business practice, as we have the complete solution .

We have installations pending all over Botswana .
